Make Music New York Festival,

the largest music event ever to grace NYC is a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs.  This year, over 1000 free performances took place on June 21st, the first day of summer.  I performed at the East Harlem Café, a great friendly and funky place that you should check out.  Here are some photos.  Click on them to expand.

Past events/workshops @ Soundtrack 7

In 2011, I founded and directed Soundtract 7, an alternative cultural space in New York City that served the Latino community through workshops, educational and artistic events.  Soundtrack 7 was an experimental space where ideas were exchanged and explored, and where local talent was incubated.  Here are photos of some of the events I organized there.

For this performance at the Queens Museum of Art, I put together a set of music that matched the showcased exhibition in the museum with the theme of Carribean cultures.

In this performance, I explored the boundaries of personal freedom and social conformity and/or obedience under the conditions of mass consumption and media domination.  The production included an array of coordinated special effects, and was conducted in a semi-interactive mode.  Writen, produced, and performed by myself.

Performance

This amazing poem, originally written in four voices, was  inspired by and dedicated to Merce Cunningham, John Cage, and Shirley Jackson.  It's staged here by its author Miguel Falquez-Certain along with actress Clara Samper and myself on the music production.

The actual reading begins at 3:44.  There is a long introduction before that.  This piece is in Spanish.

I had the honor of producing this event in conjunction with my good friends from the Rockland Center for Spiritual Living (RCSL).  The evening featured acclaimed new thought artist Laura Berman, one of the leading voices in the possitive music movement, along with other guests reading poetry.   It turned out to be a magnificent and incredibly inspiring event, and I received a lot of accolades on the production which included, lights, sound, and program.  If you do not know Laura yet, visit her page to hear her beautiful music.
